To get a little taste of what pictures you could be seeing at this years convention, here are some 2009 photo galleries from around the state. If your paper has a POY gallery for 2009 please let me know and I’ll post them.

Hey Photo Folks!
I wanted to give you an update on what’s happening in the MNPA. But first MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP! Please join or renew your membership by Feb. 14th. Help us grow into an organization you can really be proud of.
So why join? What are we doing to make it worth $35? It’s all about connecting and learning from each other.
We are accomplishing one of our goals this year. The MNPA is populating the World Wide Web. We have a fan page on Facebook http://bit.ly/cyIxVe a Twitter account http://twitter.com/mnnewsphoto and with the help of Nathan Berndt and McKenna Ewen a year round functioning website http://www.mnpa.org/
Now what does all this mean? Well no more long-winded emails from me. Updates will appear on the website. Woo hoo! That’s right the MNPA site will be more like a blog, letting you know about cool tips of the trade, interesting projects from around the state as well as around the world. Starting in a few weeks we’ll have featured bloggers. Folks like Brian Peterson and Ben Garvin from the Cities. Elizabeth Nida, from the south and Ann Arbor Miller for the north. They along with others will keep the site alive year round.
If you have any news such as you get married, have a kid, your having a photo show, your moving out of state and want to wish everyone well just email me. I’ll make it happen.
The other big reason being a member is worth your time and money is the convention. APRIL 16TH to 18TH. As always we have plans. We’ll have a gadget lesson in the 5d and to make it video ready. We’ll hear from experts in sound and in video about technical aspects of the medium and storytelling. People have written me about having a documentary filmmaker speak or having a Photoshop and/or Final Cut pro expert come in. Please let us know what will help you in your career and we’ll see what we can do.
Well check everything out and let me know what you think. Please drop me a line cus I’d love to hear from you. Also let me know how we can help.
Thanks from the Pres.
Francis Gardler put together three videos on LaBelle and his lesson on photography and life. Well done videos and in the videos Dave reminds us of our intimate connection with life through the subjects we photograph.
The Pioneer Press’ Ben Garvin has taken this years hunt for the medallion to a whole new level. These videos….man! You better take a look. For more here’s a link.

Here’s a good resource for language of the usage of your pictures from Rob Haggart’s website http://www.aphotoeditor.com/ . This information was provided to me by Former Art Buyers and current photography consultantsAmanda Sosa Stone and Suzanne Sease. Usage terms guide created by Kat Dalager. Check it out.
This is an interesting use of still photographs in stop animation.
