A call for images

January 16, 2008

MNPA Hopefuls,

One of the main stumbling blocks of this organization has been money. Not enough people were members. And those who joined just paid to enter the contest. Sad. How do we change this? How do we help ourselves? Being members helps but I’m thinking of something more fun. This is where the print auction comes in.

The Plan: To collect images (1-3) donated by photographers from around the region to sell at a silent auction. The event would be open to the public tentatively at the Midtown Global Market. There will be food and fun. It will be promoted around the Twin Cities and on the website.

How can you help? By sending Jennifer Simonson your prettiest pictures. Here’s her email: jsimonson@startribune.com. When you look through your body of work thinking of images to donate think about iconic pictures. Images that really represent the heart and beauty of our region. Also think of iconic people and places-Wellstone, Ventura, a pictorial of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Even people outside of our region who may resonate here like Nelson Mandela or Muhammad Ali. Pictures that people would be proud to own.

The image sizes should be 300dpi with the longest dimension being 12 inches. Tone them how you think they should be toned and email to Jennifer. She’ll take care of the rest.

Because we’d like to have this event the first Saturday in February the deadline for images is Jan 22nd. This gives the printer enough time to get the job done well.

Remember by spending some extra time digging through your archives means better variety of speakers and better programming throughout the year. This is the beginning. Let’s support ourselves as well as each other.

If you have any question just shoot me an email. I’d be glad to help.

Thanks,

Kyndell Harkness
